NXP's patents

The NXP Semiconductors patents history is strongly coupled to the patents history of Philips. With the foundation of NXP by Philips about 25.000 patent rights were transferred from the Philips patent portfolio. NXP aims to be a leading provider of Systems-on-Chip (SoC). By having a broad range of patents we are able to defend that space effectively against our competition, allowing us freedom to operate and avoiding high costs of royalties that some of our competitors are facing. Increasingly IP is becoming a dominant discriminator in the field of SoCs. Therefore it's very important to spend substantial effort in creating and maintaining a good patent portfolio.

NXP Semiconductors currently holds key patent positions in such fields as:

  • Home: Digital Video, Motion estimation, Halo reduction.
  • Mobile & Personal: Digital RF
  • Automotive & Identification: RFID solutions, In-Car Connectivity, In-Car Infotainment, NFC technology
